Sean Maloughney: The Oilers 2019/2020 Season Eulogy It's a long blog but take the time to read a breakdown on the Oilers 19/20 season.

“ The Oilers, Penguins, and Predators were all superior teams to their opponents”

Except that they all lost 3 games and won one game. So.......

At least they'll win the lottery again and break the internet.

The sooner you realize that, on paper or on ice, the Oilers are in fact not superior to the Hawks(which is why they lost 3 out of 4 and 5 out of 7 including the regular season) the sooner you’ll understand how far your team truly is from contending. Humble yourself. Accept who you truly are. An average/below average team. The expectations need to come WAY down.

If edmonton is a below average team than Chicago is an even lower than below average team. A 3 game winning stint does not change the fact that your team was dog poop all year.

My question is why didn't EDM go after Lehner?

Seems like a season losing mistake to let Vegas get him for a second.

Sean left out the Rangers, Florida, Winnipeg, and Minnesota who are also superior teams despite losing their series 3 games to 1.

Sigh.

Okay first off no... all of those teams finished lower than the team that beat them in the standings...

Secondly Chicago massively outplayed the Oilers in this series, at no point did I deny that (specifically pointed it out actually). This blog is a wrap up of the Oilers season. They had a good to sometimes great regular season and after a four month pause had a disappointing finish. Fans of this team should not overly panic about the future of this team based on this series but there is work to be done.

Hawks fans should enjoy their victory. They deserved it.

The Bobrovsky signing was bad from the start. He was over 30 and was coming off a pretty mediocre season with the jackets.

Not saying Edmonton should or shouldn’t but any team that needs a goalie and has the cap space should inquire. He’s on the right side of 30, has put up great stats on every team he’s been on and shows no signs of slowing down

Except for the second period of the game before where you blamed the Refs?
despite your team being the only one to score a PP goal that period . Seemed like a huge reach on your part to minimize your team being outworked by the Hawks.

Not being overly critical, as this poop is obviously hard, but I don’t think at least a little bit of panic is totally unwarranted. The years go (frank)ing fast.

This is not the year to be concerned there are way too many factors here. The fact that Edmonton wouldnt have had Chicago in the first round if this had not have happened would have been a help. We have no real rivalry or history with Chicago. It was a boring match up.

boring in what way? ill totally agree that its tough to take too too much from a small sample size. i'm not saying something crazy or drastic needs to happen, but are there really any sacred cows on this team other than mcdavid and leon?

i dont know. edmonton is a fascinating case study to me. do you think this current team is close, in the sense its just a player or two in key spots away? is the long term vision of this team to have mcdavid and drais on their own lines at ES?

I can't believe Darnell only dove once in the 4 games. If you're looking for a positive. That's it. And after watching Darnell make like a pylon for the Hawks to dance around, no way Dubas trades Willie for Nurse straight up. Maybe Kapanan or a 3rd round pick will get the job done. Nurse along with the other Dman were absolutely horrific against the Hawks. Maybe Holland does the right thing if he wins the lottery on Monday by trading that pick or Drysaddle for a legit numero uno Dman. Cause drafting generational talents hasn't got them anywhere lately.

You would've had us Canucks and we would have swept your pathetic team 4 straight. We have a couple of young studs who are actually team players. And a defense that actually defends.

Rangers are nowhere close to being better than Carolina

Florida are not better than the Isles

very debatable whether Wpg is better than Cgy when healthy, losing their 2 best players makes it not even close

who gives a poop about minessota.

congrats on your win, but Sean isn't wrong......the Oilers are a better team than Chicago. Chicago got the best of them in a short series, but the better team doesn't always win. chicago won game 4 despite being BADLY outplayed, they were also outplayed in game 3. the difference in the series was that Crawford was AMAZING in game 4, and Kostkinen wasn't great.....not that Chicago was a better team.

BLAH BLAH BLAH the best TEAM one this series not the best PLAYER.
Like there is a long standing rivalry between Vancouver & Minny, Arizona & Nash, and Flames with Jets?

if that were the case, the president's trophy winner would win the cup almost all the time....in reality, they almost never win it.

are you really suggesting that the habs are better than the pens, that the hawks are better than the oil.....was the 1980 US team better than team Russia?

underdog teams win ALL THE TIME....all it takes is a goalie to get hot at the right time.

Edmonton fans - if you win the lottery, do you just pick Laf, or would you trade him to Montreal. For Caulfield, Suzuki, Romonov and Primeau?

Montreal gets their French-Canadian Superstar and you get serious (young) depth to add to McD and Draisatal? Is Montreal giving up too much?

montreal is not trading away their best prospects in every position for lafrenière.

it would only make them look like the oilers!

It is a lot, but only one current roster player. Do you have a counter proposal?
